Lv.70+
Five Elements Instrument
The Five Elements Instrument gives your character extra stats and a plate skill.
Bonuses are counted on each arrow path, not across the whole plate.
Getting started
You need to be Lv.70 or higher.
- 1Talk to Kou Zhun to start the Five Elements quest.
- 2Go to Sima Jin Yuan in Xiangyang.
- 3Get your first plate.
- 4Press U, install the plate, and confirm.
- 5Talk to Sima Jin Yuan again to get your first stones.
- 6Insert enough stones to turn on a bonus, then go back to Sima Jin Yuan to finish the quest.
Sima Jin Yuan also handles stone refining and the plate shops.
Plates and sockets
Stones go into sockets on a plate. There are two kinds of plate:
| Plate | Sockets | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Basaltic | 5 | The center stone must match the plate’s element. |
| Zhu Que | 6 | Any element can go in any socket. |
- You can install two plates, but only the active one gives bonuses and its skill.
- Stones on the inactive plate do nothing.
- Each plate has its own bonus list. Check the list on the plate you plan to use.
The five elements
| Stone level | Points |
|---|---|
| Lv.1 | 1 |
| Lv.2 | 2 |
| Lv.3 | 3 |
| Lv.4 | 4 |
| Lv.5 | 5 |
- Two Lv.5 Water stones on the same path give Water 10.
- Element points unlock bonuses.
Paths
Each plate has two paths that start at the center. The center stone counts on both paths. Every other stone counts only on its own path.
Zhu Que plate · 6 sockets
- Path 1: center, lower-left, lower-right, right.
- Path 2: center, left, top.
- A Fire 5 stone in the center gives Fire 5 to each path. It does not add up to Fire 10.
Basaltic plates have five sockets and different paths:
| Path | Sockets on path |
|---|---|
| Path 1 | Center, top, right, lower-right |
| Path 2 | Center, left |
The Path 1 and Path 2 totals at the bottom of the game window show the points on each path.
How bonuses turn on
A bonus turns on when one path meets all of its requirements. For example, a bonus that needs Water 9 + Fire 9:
| Path points | Active? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One path has Water 10 + Fire 10 | Yes | Both are on the same path. |
| One path has Water 10 + Fire 5 | No | Not enough Fire. |
| Path 1 has Water 10, Path 2 has Fire 10 | No | Paths do not add together. |
- Going over a requirement is fine. Water 10 counts for Water 9.
- A bonus only applies once, even if both paths meet it.
- Points are not used up. The same points can turn on several bonuses.
- Different bonuses can come from different paths, but a bonus that needs two elements needs both on one path.
Same stones, different bonuses
Both screenshots use a Zhu Que Willow plate with four Lv.5 Water and two Lv.5 Fire stones. Only the placement is different.
Layout A: 3 bonuses
3 active
- Path 1
- Water 20
- Path 2
- Water 5 + Fire 10
- Morning Star
- Lunar
- Tuo Luo
Path 2 has Fire 10 but only Water 5, so Venturi and Purple Tiny stay off.
Layout B: 5 bonuses
5 active
- Path 1
- Water 10 + Fire 10
- Path 2
- Water 15
- Morning Star
- Lunar
- Tuo Luo
- Venturi
- Purple Tiny
Path 1 has Water 10 + Fire 10, so Venturi and Purple Tiny turn on.
- Venturi needs Water 10 + Fire 6. Purple Tiny needs Water 9 + Fire 9.
Can I use three elements?
- Yes. For example, two Gold, two Water, and two Fire stones. The same path rules apply.
- Pick the bonuses you want, then place your stones so one path meets each one.
Stat bonuses and the plate skill
| Feature | How to turn it on |
|---|---|
| Stat bonuses | Meet the requirements on one path. |
| Plate skill | Fill every socket with a Lv.5 stone. The plate needs endurance left. |
- Basaltic plates need five Lv.5 stones. Zhu Que plates need six.
- Any mix of elements works.
- An empty socket or a stone below Lv.5 blocks the skill.
- Zhu Que plates give Storm Thunderclap, Star Vast, or Sword Earth. These are passive skills. Check the skill tooltip for details.
- Stat bonuses work before you unlock the skill.
Refining stones
Talk to Sima Jin Yuan and pick Five Elements Rock refining. Choose a level and recipe, then check the materials before you confirm.
| Stone | Materials |
|---|---|
| Lv.1 | 6 matching basic essence |
| Lv.2 | 12 matching basic essence + 25 Star Shards |
| Lv.3 | 36 matching basic essence + 75 Star Shards |
| Lv.4 | 72 matching basic essence + 200 Star Shards |
| Lv.5 | 12 matching advanced essence + 800 Star Shards |
- You do not need a lower-level stone to make a higher one.
- Two-element stones use different recipes. Check the recipe and keep space in your bag.
Endurance and repairs
A fully repaired plate has 120 endurance.
- Plates lose 1 endurance every 6 hours, even while you are offline.
- Both installed plates lose endurance, including the inactive one.
- Full endurance lasts about 30 days.
- Bonuses work at full strength until endurance reaches 0.
- At 0, bonuses and the plate skill stop until you repair the plate.
Repairing sets the plate back to 120/120. The cost is based on every stone in the plate, not on how much endurance is missing. Each stone adds:
| Stone level | Repair cost |
|---|---|
| Lv.1 | 2 matching basic essence |
| Lv.2 | 4 matching basic essence + 1 Star Shard |
| Lv.3 | 6 matching basic essence + 5 Star Shards |
| Lv.4 | 8 matching basic essence + 10 Star Shards |
| Lv.5 | 5 matching advanced essence + 500 Star Shards |
- The repair window shows the total before you pay.
- Dust of Five Elements is the basic Wood material.
Storage, replacing, and deleting
The essence storage button lets you store and take out basic and advanced essences. Plan your layout before inserting expensive stones, because changing it later can mean destroying them.
- Unlock your item lock before using essence storage or destroying anything.
- To put a new stone in a used socket, clear the socket first.
- Destroying a stone deletes it for good. It does not go back to your bag.
- Deleting a plate also deletes every stone in it.
- Switching between your two plates is safe and does not destroy anything.
